Asking for advice on editing an image but not showing it does not provide a good basis for that advice.

How familiar are you with Adjustment Layers and Layer Masks?

Hi

It sounds like you are trying to reduce the red blood vessels in the white of an eye rather than the traditional red eye caused by reflected light on the retina. If so, targetting the colour with a Hue and Saturation adjustment layer may do the job, but to confirm it would be better if you posted an example.

Using this as an example

Add the Hue/Saturation layer as Dave suggested, and set it to target the Reds

Reducing the saturation will leave the lines as dark grey, so we also need to increase Lightness.

The skin around the eye has a lot of red in it, so we need to restrict the effect to the iris by inverting the layer mask to fill it with black, and painting with white where we need it to work.

Nice job Trevor.

Jani - If you use the method shown above make sure you leave some trace of the blood vessels there (as Trevor has done) or it will look unnatural.

Hi Jan,

No, we are volunteer users of Adobe products and cannot call you, sorry. Please post a screen shot and one of us can help walk you through it. Are you using Trevor's method or my method? They both work. Any of us can help you with either method.

Also, here is the link to the Terry White video. See if that helps if you use this method.

Hi Jan,

You figured out the red eye or how to post a picture?

If it’s the red eye, and I hope it is, which method worked for you?

I selected the tools brush and zoomed in on the eye. Then clicked the black and white box on the bottom. Then clicked on the white square. And brought down opacity down to 25 then brushed.

The eye is never pure white, which is why this method calls for using the eyedropper to pick up the white of the eye.

But I’m so glad it worked for you!

Here is a totally different method that I've used for years and learned from Terry White, but using Trevor's photo. I am guessing there are many ways to do this!

  • On a new layer, use the eyedropper to sample the white of the eye. (It won't be "white".)
  • Set the Paintbrush to 20% opacity and paint on the new layer with the "white" of the eye. You may need to resample this color for the other eye and other parts of this eye.
  • When you paint continuously, you can keep painting without increasing the amount of paint.
When you stop and start, you add more paint on top of what you have.
Because it's on a layer, you can reduce the layer opacity or start again if you overdo it.
Some blood vessels need to show or it won't look real.
