Icon overlay on .psd files

So the other day I noticed that illustrator (.ai) files have an overlay on their thumbnails but my .psd files don't. Are they supposed to have them by default or is there a way to get them ?

Yes, depends on OS. There are third party utilities that can force the overlay badge to show.

Went with SageThumbs and it's done the job. Wish it wasn't necessary to use 3rd-party stuff but that's Windows I guess.

Hmm well I guess I'll put this down to a quirk of Windows then. If I had only Illustrator or Photoshop installed I would understand but it just seems odd that having both breaks the overlay.

What is displayed depends on your OS , Installed Software, software your using to display, files contents and view options. Ai is not installed on my system.

Not sure what you mean by "overlay". I don't see any difference between the AI and PSD shoes other than the PSD shoe is pixelated.

By overlay I mean the "AI" that appears over the top of the thumbnail.
