Image color changes when I duplicate a layer to another document

Hi

1: always "embed" the ICC profile when saving an image, the ICC profile is what gives menaing to the RGB numbers for each pixel, the ICC colour profile system relates those RGB (or CMYK) numbers to actual visual appearance (via something called L*a*b* colour). 

2: ensure that "ask when pasting" is checked in edit/color settings

- just in case the 2 files have different colour spaces. 

Ideally, though, you'd be working with the same colour space on your files, for example Adobe RGB or sRGB, those are popular device independent working colour spaces.

Please set the Status Bar to »Document Profile« and post screenshots. 

It's because one of your images is untagged (does not have an embedded color profile).

Always make sure the profile is embedded! Save As should do this automatically. With Export/Save For Web the "embed profile" checkbox is unchecked by default. Always remember to check it.

If both images have their appropriate profiles, it will be converted during the paste, and the colors maintained.
