Hi

More than likely the file is unrecoverable, what operating system do you have, if it's a MAC do you have Time Machine setup

How to use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support

You should really be backing up your important docs as system crashes are inevitable, external storage is extremely cheap and you can even back-up to the cloud

Work on the principle that your Photoshop images will sometime become corrupt, so save frequently and incrementally and externally (as well as locally).

If you didn't see an option to open a recovered doc when you relaunched Photoshop, chances are you are out of luck. End of file encouter is often given as a cause by Photoshop but you will just as often find you can open the file in another applcation, save it and then open it in Photoshop.

Do you have another app that will open a PSD file, such as Affinity Photo? If not, search the internet for one. You can also try opening it in Lightroom if you have it, then editing it in Photoshop via the File > Edit in Photoshop command in Lr.

Photoshop saves your docs in case it crashes, or your OS crashes. On next launch, you should see the recovered doc that was saved before Photoshop was forcefully closed.

You can set the time in File Handling preferences. I forget the default, but I always make sure it's set to 5 minutes.

Not sure how I did it but I have my recovery folder in a conveneint place where I can fish for files. Search for PSAutoRecover and see if file is in there. Once you launch Photoshop and elect NOT to open recovery doc, it will be deleted (as happens when you close a doc, or Photoshop).

One trick you can try is opening the file in another app (sometimes GIMP or Affinity Photo can read slightly damaged files). If the file opens, save it as a new copy, then try opening it back up in Photoshop. Also, if you have Lightroom, you could try importing the file there and then using the 'Edit in Photoshop' option to see if that helps.

For future work, setting Photoshop’s auto-save interval (under File Handling preferences) to around 5 minutes can be a lifesaver in case of sudden shutdowns.
