Image jumps to centre when zooming in/out

Is anybody else experiencing an issue, particularly in Camera RAW, where the image jumps to the centre when zooming? For example, you try to zoom in to approx 400% in the top left, but you can only zoom into the centre of the image. Is this a bug? Is there a fix to this?

Have you tried reseting preferences? https://helpx.adobe.com/in/camera-raw/using/camera-raw-settings.html

  1. Hold down the Command key and select Photoshop > Preferences > Camera Raw (macOS) or hold down the Ctrl key and select Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw (Windows).
  2. Click Yes in the dialog that asks "Delete the Camera Raw Preferences?"

I have just tried this. This hasn't solved the issue.

I would like to know the answer here, too! It drives me crazy - and makes me perceive the 16" screen as too small.

Me too. Deleting preferences did nothing. Super frustrating.

This apparently still is the only thread to this topic, as Google still does not manage to show search results regarding this very (and still annoying) issue.

Support:

Yes i understand that its an amazing feature which will be very practice if integrated with the Camera raw application. It can be fixed in the integrated in the coming updates.

I:

And will it be integrated and fixed?

Because, up to the year 2020, the Magic Mouse used to work just fine (as I found several threads to this very topic).

Support:

Thank you for the information, Yes in the upcoming updates it should be reliable and the zooming flexible capabilities should be integrated back.

Has anyone tried changing the Zoom Clicked Point to Center setting in Photoshop Preferences / Tools, as shown in the picture below?

I’m not sure if any Photoshop zoom settings affect Camera Raw. The only setting I can find in Camera Raw that affects the zoom behavior is Use Lightroom Style Zoom and Pan. Maybe try toggling that, but no guarantees.

I haven't tested, but I wonder if Overscroll makes a difference?  I always keep it turned on so you can move the image around the screen.  %With it off, the image is locked and can be hidden behind panels.  I like to keep all of those zoom options enabled, and it always just works as it should for me.

Yes, this seems to be a known issue in Camera RAW, where zooming automatically centers the image instead of maintaining the selected area. This behavior could be a bug or an unintended change in a recent update. A possible workaround is to use the hand tool (H) to reposition the view after zooming or try zooming in by holding Alt (Option on Mac) and using the scroll wheel while keeping the cursor over the desired area. Additionally, check for any available updates or try resetting Camera RAW preferences to see if that resolves the issue. Hopefully, Adobe addresses this in a future update!
