Image Recovery

In the past, if I had a power failure while editing, when I reopened PS the image/s I was working on would come back up as a recovered file. Several times lately this has happened and when I reopen PS the image edit is just gone. Did Adobe remove this feature, has it been moved and renamed? What's going on with this?

Just to state for the record and for the use of others, this is how you set up automatic Ps backup of work files:

Settings>File Handling>Automatically Save Recovery (box checked?) every 5/10/15/30minutes/1hr

Ps>Help>Photoshop Help, search for "file recovery troubleshooting." As of this writing, the third search result, file recovery troubleshooting (Help), will be a good read.

excerpt(s) --

There are numerous potential causes for file damage:
• Sudden power outage
• Computer crashes while saving a file
• Photoshop freezes or crashes while saving a file
• Network connection issues
• Hardware problems, including damaged cables, failing hard disks or RAM modules
• Triggered OS update on your computer

If your image appears corrupted on screen and the damage does not save to the exported file or
print, the cause is likely your graphics card or driver.
See Troubleshoot Photoshop graphics processor (GPU) and graphics driver issues.

I found no statement in Adobe's documentation that autosave doesn't work as advertised if no initial user-initiated save is performed. I'd like a reference to that Adobe.com information, not an anecdote please.

It still exists but requires that you save the file first. After that it saves a recovery file in case of a crash.
Personally, I would never rely on that and use incremental saves while I work i.e. filename001, filename002 etc. When I am finished, and have checked the final saved version is OK, I just delete those incremental files.

Thanks for this. Just like Adobe to take the fangs out of something and place it in the closethh.

Didn't you already say that?

Yes, just before you accused Adobe of hiding things
