Image Scan Restorations

Hello, all

Newbie here. I’d like to get learn how to restore scanned images such as the example listed below. I have a pretty basic understanding of P.S. But would like to learn how to do this type of restoration myself. I see hints on the image screenshots on the link below, such as the need to create multiple layers and applying some type of modification to a pre-selected area. I just need to learn what exactly. What do you all suggest or think is needed to replicated this? Thank you.

what is needed is an image to work off because they are all different and its not a case of one technique works for all

example a high polly scan is generally best but text, especially if on dirty paper needs a low polly scan or all you will end up with is the dirt... images that have clear colour lines like blue outfits against red backgrounds are easy to cut out, but hair can be a real 'bottle blond so and so"

The scan in the link provided is actually mine. I wanted to see if I could replicate what that person did.

In this case, using Camera Raw Filter from Filters Menu will give you a good and quick results.

From the Basic Tab you can adjust colors.

and from the Details tab you can fix the noise by increasing the noise reduction and increase the Color noise reduction.

Oh wow. That really makes a difference.

I have tried some gaussian blur to rid the halftone but I could never get the sharpness back. I guess if you go too far, sharpness can no longer be applied?

How would some one replace these corrections? I guess this would be more specific to my goals.

Select a frame, and give it a slight Gaussian blur.  I used a value of 1.2 pixels.

Then Levels to harden the edges back up again.
