Image with transparent background does not indicate previous scaling

Greetings,

Is there a way around this situation when specifically working with PNGs?

I've noticed that linked and placed PNGs and Tiffs that have a transparent background always reset the scaling value to 100% after applying the scale command to the linked file.

For example:

Scenario 1:

if I placed a linked tiff that is 11" W x 8.5" H which contains a 4" diameter black circle centered on the page and it has a completely empty transparent background, and I set the scale to 128%, after the scaling function has been applied, if I then go back and try to scale the same linked circle tiff again, the current scale is displayed as 100% (which is actually 100% times the 128% scaled image) instead of indicating that the current scale is 128%.

Scenario 2:

But if I did the same 128% scaling to an identical size 11" W x 8.5" H tiff except the background is completely filled this time with white (or any color) along with the 4" diameter cirlce, the current scaling value of the placed object remains in tact showing 128%. So in this second scenario If I scaled it to 128%, did some other edits then go back to scale the linked object, the transform scaled would still indicate the actual scale factor based on the canvas size of the link and not treat it as a fresh 100% each time like in Scenario 1.

Thanks for any help on this.

Wasn't able to replicate this. With a linked or placed PNG, with a transparent background, the percentage is retained after scaling - 25%, 40%, whatever I change it to. Could you possibly record and upload a short video of what's happening? Or perhaps a few screenshots. Also, is this happening on a Windows or a mac?

Thanks for the reply, I'm on Windows, but after further testing, I realized the situation is not occuring because of transparency, but when a layer has a LINKED (by default) Layer Mask or Vector Mask on it. If I unlink the mask the in the Layer window, the actual 50% scale is indicated on the transparent 11"x8.5" with a 4" circle png file . It's helpful to be able to UNLINK the mask to see what the unmasked file scale is, but it seems that you do have to LINK the mask if you want the mask to scale with the layer, which leads back to the original problem that when the mask is LINKED, the scaling factor resets to 100% everytime the scaling/transform is completed. Please let me know what you find out.

Is there any setting to ALWAYS display the NOT MASKED layer scale when scaling a masked layer? Thanks for your help.
