This problem actually started with my Epson SureColor P600 printer.
I abought the P600 roughly seven years ago, and until this past February (2024) it worked flawlessly. I was able to print perfectly, with borders as specified on paper ranging in sizes from 8 ½ x 11, to 11 x 17, to 13 x 19. I could print photographs using Photoshop, or another raw processor, Capture One.
Suddenly, starting in February, my prints on larger papers i.e. 11x17 and larger, started to print off centre. The top margin would be 1 ½ inches, while the bottom margin was ½ inch, and the left was 1 ½ inches and the right might be less than ¼ inch in some cases. Interestingly, I had this problem when printing using both Capture One and Photoshop.
I first tried to fix the problem by cleaning my nozzles and aligning the print heads, but nothing changed.
I then called Epson. I was asked to reinstall all my Epson software and drivers, tried printing again – no change. I tried printing an MS Word document on the P600 – same result – the margins were off-centre on larger paper sizes. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both Photoshop and Capture One, and had the same problem.
I was asked to send in photos of the pages to Epson and managed to get to the second level support. As soon as he saw the photos the technician stated that “this is a printer issue”. He advised that there are optical sensors in the printer which line up the print head and the paper for printing, and something was clearly off. He then advised I would need to send the printer to Epson for repair.
Given the cost of shipping to Toronto and back, plus the cost of the repair, I decided to instead buy a new Epson SureColor P700 printer. I downloaded and installed drivers from Epson’s web site and lo and behold – I had the same problem!
I then decided to try printing from my tablet PC, a Microsoft Surface Pro 8, to see if the problem was actually with my desktop PC. The problem was still there, even when I uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop and Capture One on my Surface Pro.
I called Epson again and after a few days managed to get to third level support. That technician had me download and install Epson Print Layout (which interestingly doesn’t automatically install when you set up a new printer). We then tested printing images using Epson Print Layout, and they printed correctly. The Epson technician declared success, as I had been able to print properly using their product, notwithstanding the fact I had the problem with two independent computers, using two well-know image processing programs, and they now consider the matter closed.
I managed to get through to Adobe support and they did admit there had been other reports of this type of problem over time.
Has anyone had this issue, and how did you resolve it?
Thanks!
