Import video frames to layers

I am trying to make a gif, importing video frames to layers, but when PS opens the video I can't see the slider-play/arrow buttons, I can click on them knowing where they're supposed to be but all I see is a black line.

Which OS, which PS version, are all updates installed and all device drivers up to date????

Windows 8, Photoshop CS5 Extended, drivers are up to date, QuickTime latest version.... Thanks
