Inability to overwrite images in Photoshop

In the last couple of iterations of photoshop I have been unable to overwrite files when I re-save them. Particulariy .jpg files. It's really put a hamper on my workflow. I get a warning that says the file will be overwritten but instead get a -1 added. Anyone find a suitable workaround for this? I would also like to add that I really dislike being forced to use the "Save As A Copy" dialog. Another bump in the workflow...

Perhaps Apple is adding the -1 which Mac OS version are you running?  Adobe added "Save a Copy" because of some Apple change. Check Apple's Documentation.

I'm running Big Sur 11.52 and the most recent versions of Photoshop from CC. I just realized it is adding "-copy" not "-1" as I originally stated (sorry about that). I dug in a big further. This issue has been around for a while and still hasn't been resolved. It's a pain to have to delete that ending and the original file every time. I have seen a couple workarounds involving flattening before saving and changing some permissions, but they won't seem to work consistently or really save any time.
