Increase Selection Mask Density Sky

Enthusiast ,
Jan 18, 2023 Jan 18, 2023

Looking to see if there is a way to increase the overlay density on the mask when selecting the Sky.

Trying to mask out the sky to eliminate any trace of the sky in the background.

When using Select Sky in PS layer density is only 90% at best. This requires a concerted effort to clean up any remaining residue.

When you have an image with a sky and go to Select > Sky, you can create a layer mask from the select by clicking on the 3rd icon from the left at the bottom of the Layers panel.

If you'd like to modify the layer mask, then with the layer mask selected, go to the Channels panel (Window > Channels), deselect all the other channels except the layer mask. Then you can see the mask better to make adjustments there.

Myra;

Thanks, I will try your recommendation. I have discovered also when the sky is selected to use a Fill layer. Works 90% of the time. I find some images which still require clean up with artifacts left behind.

Thank you.

Just an update to your recommendation process;

Alt click on the Mask icon

Using Magic Wand Selection Tool I can isolate the seperation then paint it out.

Thanks

From you first post, what tool(s) are you usign to select the sky currently? can you screenshot your workspace so we can see yoru tool settings?

Additionally with Myra's comments, if you go to Window > Properties, you should get a panel that will allow you to adjust the mask density directly.

Chris;

Yes, I can see in the properties panel the density. It is maxed at 100%. However when you look at the masking it applying feathering so will go from 255 to 236 in one image. Also spills over into the object below the sky. Was looking for a 100% seperation to pull the sky out. This is to remove any clouds.

Thanks
