Intel graphics 520 vs 620 - Basic Photo Editing

Hello Adobe Support \ Community

 

I want find out will Adobe Photoshop work on a notebook with a Intel HD graphics 520 vs 620. Adobe Photoshop will only be used for basic 2d photo editing.

Hi @JRJakkals you are limited with your hardware, you should try looking at Photoshop Elements. It allows for basic photo editing and the requirements are a little more forgiving. You'd still be running slower than on a newer card, but your chances of running at all will be better and the investment would be less.

    One more thing to keep in mind. Graphics requirements are advancing quickly, so these integrated graphics are rapidly going out of date. If it “sort of” works today, in less than a year or two they might not even meet the minimium requirement.

     

    One thing that is advancing the requirements is the increasing use of AI in features, from basic selection to retouching and filters. I know you said “basic image editing,” but the more you want to use the convenient AI features to speed up basic image retouching and correction, the sooner Intel Graphics 520/620 will be too weak to allow some features to work.

     

    The original question was about comparing Intel Graphics 520 vs. 620, but really, the answer is the difference between them is not significant compared to what is recommended today. It looks like 620 might be 25% faster overall, but the graphics hardware being recommended for AI features today is many times more powerful than that, so the 25% turns out to be an insignificant difference. At this point, both 520 and 620 are equally inadequate.

      Hi @JRJakkals to put it simply - neither will work well. The faster of the two Intel HD 620 clocks in under 500 ops/second. The minimum recommended speed is 2,000 ops/sec. These cards are over 8 years old.

      I would not recommend either.

      Adobe recommends a minimum of 1.5 GB GPU RAM (with 4GB recommended) , Direct X 12 support and a passmark benchtest of 2000.

       

      The HD520 does not have dedicated VRAM but shares system RAM, it does support Direct X 12 but only scores 413 on the Passmark benchtest

       

      The HD 620 does not have dedicated VRAM but shares system RAM, it does support Direct X 12 but only scores 432 on the passmark benchtest
