Is it no longer possible to use "small thumbnail" brush and tool presets?

For years I've been using the same (roughly) approach to brush size and opacity in Photoshop. I can't tell from the options now available in PS CC 2018 whether that's still possible. All I want to work with is the grid-panel of Small Thumbnail dots showing size and hardness, and the similar panel of Tool Presets indicating opacity. I do not like the large, swooping, curvy calligraphic presets that take up 20-30% of the screen area, however briefly. I want my tools back. Any solutions, or am I stuck with this?

So I'm correct in thinking that there will no longer be two pallets-brush presets and tool presets-with ready-made sizes, ready-made opacities, and ready-made hardness, and I will have to change my working method to suit Adobe?

    You can create either :

Brush preset with tool settings (which can include size,  hardness, opacity , flow etc) :

    Tool preset :
