In a tracing workflow, I switch between direct selection tool and the pen tool quite often. Its kinda annoying to look at the keyboard and press 'a' for direct selection mapped to the left hand pinky (pinkie) and then look at the keyboard to press 'p' for pen tool mapped to right hand pinkie.
Photoshop is dense with hidden keyboard shortcuts since like ever..., so am wondering if there a hidden shortcut for the 'last used tool' ? If not, Is there a way to toggle between these two with a single button click ?

Found it. CMD key toggle between pen & Direct selection tool.
Now would like to know if there is a book or article that shows all these 'Amazing power shortcuts' in Photoshop ?
Just the other day found that clicking on an object in the layers panel with ALT zooms the view on the Object !! Now am clicking everywhere in photoshop with the ALT and Command Keys. 🙂

You can get a list of shortcuts in Photoshop itself. Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts, and click the Summarize button.

Doing a search will show sites with PS shortcuts. As you found, the ctrl/cmd key will switch the pen tool to the direct selection tool. And the alt/opt key will change to the tool convert point tool. No need to search for a new tool, when using the pen tool.
