Hi all,

There is an issue when trying to open Photoshop files using the double click or right-click to 'Open' file. In doing so Photoshop opens as a separate window (as if from startup) essentially booting up Photoshop once again depite having already loaded the software.

I can drag a Photoshop file in to open a psd file but it's not an ideal solution. Has anyone got some insight into how I can fix this?

Many thanks

Hi

This is a guess, but it sounds like you have one version of Photoshop running, and when you open a file from Windows File Explorer, it is opening a second version that is also installed. Do you have PS in the taskbar two times? If so, can you go to Help > About and confirm the exact version of Photoshop of each?

In Windows File Explorer, you can also choose "Open With" and select the application and version, then choose to use that application for all files with that extension. In your case, you want to associate .psd with the correct version of Photoshop.

If my guess is wrong, please show a screen shot to help us to better assist.

Hi Jane,

Thank you for the quick response! I have just out those steps and the version of Photoshop is the same, files attached below. Previously, I have uninstalled and installed latest version and I believe I cleared all preferences too, but not made any head way and carried on working around it.

In double clicking a file, Photoshop will load up but it won't action the actual opening of the file. It's really bizaare. Something to do with preferences somewhere?

Thanks for your help,

Rich
