Question

Jpeg with depth maps in Photoshop

Hi all,

I've recently purchased a Samsung S10 mobile phone, which supports the "live focus" option. From what I understand this embeds a depth map into the image for later manipulation.

This allows me to upload image to Facebook as "3d photos", IE. the ones that have a parallax effect. And if I open the jpeg using StereoPhoto Maker (http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/index.html), a really old application, I can split the image from its depthmap.

Is there a way of getting Photoshop to see the embedded depth map without having to manually split photo from depth map?

I'm using Photoshop CC (V20), on Windows 10.

Thanks.

no you can manually rebuild the info inside Photoshop but by default its a 2d workspace and not designed to read an image with its depthmap

Hi there,

Creating a depth map is possible in Photoshop, however, there no way to manually split an image from the depth map.
You may suggest this as a feature here: https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family This forum is monitored by our engineers and they might look into it for future releases.
