Just Updated Photoshop and Now Cannot Open Photoshop Images

I just updated to Photoshop 24.0 and now I cannot open any images I created before the update. I've tried restarting and it just comes up error. It doesn't matter if its saved on the cloud or on my computer. I am running on Windows if that matters.

All sorted now, several updates to drivers weren't apparent, it looked like
everything was up to date but it wasn't, took three go's to get all
updated. At least I think that was the problem

Same here - nothing will open. I have a brand new Mac Studio, is it possible its graphics card is out of date already? Thank you.

Gee, do you think rolling back GPU to before 2016 will fix the problem of PS 24 just hanging and eating up tons of memory (I have to force quit the app every single time). Plus, I think it ruined my computer because I got a black screen on startup and now it is not running as well as it was (because I had to turn the power off ... god only knows what damage that did).

I cannot update my graphics driver. It says the latest is installed. PS has gotten worse with every upgrade. I cannot even use the object selection tool anymore without it crashing the program and having to force quit.

I am beginning to think the software just won't work from an external SSD drive either. So frustrating that we have to store it all on our PC. What is the cloud/external storage for if PS will not let us use it?

It seems as though this setting may have mitigated some of the slowness, crashing and hanging. I have to make sure I shut down Bridge first otherwise that hangs and refuses to close. I also have to work on my local drive and then copy things over to my external drive when I am done. It's annoying, but I have given up.

Perhaps try resetting Photoshop preferences?

Resetting restores Photoshop's internal preferences, which are saved when Photoshop closes.

If they become corrupt then various issues can occur.

Note re macOS: The user Library folder is hidden by default.

You may want to backup your settings and custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences.

Before you reset your preferences

in case of future issues, I suggest you make a copy as Adobe may need one to check problematic references.

Quit Photoshop.
Go to Photoshop's Preferences folder

Note for those on macOS: - be aware that the user Library folder is hidden by default on macOS.

In the Finder, open the “Go” menu whilst holding down the Option (Alt) key.

Library will now appear in the list - below the current user's “home” directory. ]

Now you can drag the entire Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings folder to the desktop or somewhere safe as a back-up of your settings.

Note for those on macOS:

Preference preservation is affected by macOS permissions,

you’ll need to allow Photoshop ‘Full Disk Access’ in your Mac OS Preferences/Security and Privacy

It may even be time to reinstall Photoshop.

It’s recommended that you use the Adobe CC cleaner tool to remove all traces first.

(See above about preserving preferences though! Its worth preserving them unless they are corrupted.)

Uninstall Photoshop BUT make sure to choose the option “Yes, remove app preference”.

Once that process finishes, start the installation process and look into the “Advanced Options”. Uncheck “Import previous settings and preferences” and choose to “Remove old versions”.
