Question

Keep line width in Ps while making it longer

I draw a line (shape). Whenever I try to make it longer the width automatically scales accordingly and I want to keep it constant. I tried all the options (uncheck the "chain" ...) but I can't get it done. I can rewrite the width after but if I've rotated it, it's impossible.

Any help? Thanks in advance.

Put a guide on either side of the rectangle shape:

Anyway, I would recommend ignoring the Line Tool altogether and instead using a plain two-point-path Shape Layer with a Stroke.

Not sure I understand. When you change width, you're affecting the length of the line from point A to point B.

Can you show us what you're trying to do?

Original line: 240 H, 6 W.

With the Line Tool I drag it down by the middle down square (you can see width and length are unlinked) and it becomes: 320 H, 8 W, and I'd like it to be a 320 H, 6 W. Same results with the Path Selection Tool.

I'm trying to repro with those same settings but I cannot seem to do so. (I'm on Windows, however, so it might be a case of a video driver issue. Certainly wouldn't be the first time.)

If you disable acceleration, does it help? (Preferences > Performance > Graphics Processor Settings > uncheck "Use Graphics Processor")
