Keeping metadata when moving from lightroom to photoshop

I normally start editing my photographs in lightroom and then click File-> Edit in Photoshop when I want to do some other things. When I do this, I see that all my metadata has been removed, the lens information the camera information, date the photograph was taken, etc. How can I not have this happen?

What are your Lr settings for Edit > Catalog Settings > Metadata > Automatically Write Changes Into XMP

Lightroom or Lightroom Classic.

I am not seeing that issue here with Lightroom Classic v13.4 and Photoshop v25.9.1 - even the keywords are carried over.

You "see" this where? File Info in Photoshop or somewhere else?

When I export from Photoshop to png or jpg and upload it to SmugMug or Flickr I do not see any of the metadata. I have looked at the properties of the file before I upload to those sites and there is no meta data like I mentioned.

Export by design strips metadata, as it's intended for web/screen/mobile devices where you want the smallest file size possible.

To retain metadata use Save As or Save A Copy.

Or Save for Web and use the metadata popup to save needed metadata.
