Keyboard shortcuts have stopped working

Hi!

The keyboard shortcuts have stopped working for me in photoshop. I have used photoshop for 10+ years and have never had this problem before.

I have tried the following:

  • Closing all other open applications.
  • Restarting the program and the computer.
  • Resetting the preferences in photoshop.
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling photoshop (also trying older versions.)
  • Unplugging all devices, including the external keyboard, and restarting the computer.
  • Testing different language keyboard settings in windows.

I am working on a laptop and the shortcuts don't work on the laptop keyboard nor on the external keyboard. However, I can still use the keyboard for navigating the menu bar etc. It is only the shortcuts that aren't working.

Does anyone know what might cause the problem?

Best regards,

Jesper

Hi Cory,

Turns out installing a different language pack for windows fixed the problem. Instead of using the english language pack for danish keyboards, ENG(Danish), I switched to the defualt ENG(US).

Now everything works fine, but of course I would prefer using using the danish language pack as I am using a danish keyboard.

Best regards,

Jesper

I was facing a similar issue with all my adobe apps. After trying out every possible solution on the internet (including reset preference,  change keyboard language etc etc), what worked for me was in your remote desktop agent app( installed on your Mac) goto-connections-keyboard mode - select SCANCODE. NOT unicode. I must have hit a shortcut accidently at some point to change that setting. Hope that works for anyone coming here with a similar issue in 2024.

I just had a similiar problem.  I got a new keyboard and it was set to canadian multilingual by default. It caused half of the hotkeys to not work. I switched it to English(US) and it appears to have solved the problem. Took me all afternoon to figure it out though!

I had the same issue in all of my Adobe software and the solution worked for me too. But I find it pretty weak that Adobe wouldn't support this. Thanks for the solution anyway.

Hi @Gustav Jesper29654176uvk7 instead of resetting prefs, let's try to manually reset which can solve many issues...

Let's make sure we're in a default state and there are no stale settings somewhere:

Restore your preferences using this manual method:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually

Does it work correctly?

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

None of the options on this page helped.  I am so frustrated. Like the user below, I have been using Photoshop for a long time and this has never happened and now I can't seem to fix it. All shortcut icons for filters are not working. They display, but they don't function.
