Question

Lack of RAM when I switched to SSD

I've just upgraded my HDD to SDD. I edit photos, so 16GB of RAM was enough for me when I had the system on my old HDD, now, sometimes my PC crashes, and I got the message that Photoshop require more RAM, Mozilla tabs crashes etc. To mention, all my photos are on the second partition on HDD. When I copy them to SDD, it seems fine, I will see if that will happen when I edit them directly from where the system is. Does anyone have the idea, why my programs are crashing now when I edit photos from the HDD and second partition?

Update: No it doesnt seem fine, Photoshop opens only 10 photos, and the RAM memory is full! Mozilla crashed again. Never had this problem before.

a normal Windows temp file path should say

C:\Users\%username%\AppData

where %username% = the name of your user account... User is not a valid name for a User account so Photoshop will be blocked from placing temp files there = crash

you do have 16G Ram so I would assume this only happens when other software is running... anyway good luck with it

SSDs are often too small. If it fills up you will run out of memory.

1. How much free disk space on the SSD do you see before running Photoshop

2. At the moment Photoshop complains it has run out of RAM, LEAVE THE MESSAGE ON SCREEN. Now check the free space on the SSD before you click OK on the message.

3. Capture the message about RAM and post that too.

So, we are looking for two numbers and a screen shot from you.

Can you post your Photoshop system info, in Photoshop go to Help > System Info, hit the copy button and paste the entire thing into this thread.

Does the error message mention scratch disk by any chance, also what operating system do you have, if you're on Windows check the task manager for available memory when you open images in Photoshop
