Lag issues with Photoshop v 23

I use Photoshop v 23.02 in Windows 11 and have noticed serious issues with lag using Select & Mask tools. Some work okay but others like "refine hair" just sit there for 5 minutes until they work. It is making Photosop almost unworkable with the delays. I have tried several "solutions" I found on the Internet but none seem to work. I have reverted back to Photoshop v 22.5.3 and the problems have disappeared. Any idea's what is causing the issues in the latest versions?

I have a healthy 16GB of RAM on my laptop so I can't see memory being an issue and am using Windows 11. I have tried resetting the main Photoshop preferences but this does not help.

NOTE - I did post this a few months back but accidentally marked one of the replies as the correct answer so posting again as still have the issues, Any help is much appreciated,

Did you try restoring your prefs? Getting back to a known default setting to rule out a stale setting is the best place to start:

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Your graphics card isn't supported in the current version of Photoshop. You could try going to Preferences > Technology Previews... and check "Disable Native Canvas" - then restart Photoshop. This will force Photoshop to use OpenGL instead of the modern, OS Native API. Otherwise, a new dedicated graphics card with at least 2GB VRAM (4GB or more suggested) would help your situation.

I have tried checking Disable Native Canvas and re-starting but this makes no difference unfortunately. I have updated the graphics driver to see if that would help but still have the same issues.

I do have 20GB of RAM in the laptop. Would this not "assist" in some way to smooth Photoshop out? (sorry I am not very technically minded with these things!)

I find it bizarre that my laptop worked fine with Photoshop 22 but won't with version 23? It could cost me now a small fortune to either upgrade my graphics card or worse still, replace the entire laptop if the graphics card is not removable. I am surprised there are not thousands of people out there with the same issue?

Do you still have version 22 installed on your machine? I would suggest going back a version to what worked until you can figure out how you want to navigate the upgrade issue.

At least it will give you time to prepare for either a new GPU or machine, and you'll still be able to work. 

I finally had to buy a new laptop because nothing was compatible with my 2010 machine. And it took 20 minutes to boot up! I keep it around to translate some files in older formats but that is all it can do. 

You may want to export any brushes, styles, etc. that you've made in 23 to bring back into 22 so you don't lose them.

It also looks like you are using Windows 11 and your  CPU is slower then Adobe Photoshop requirements 2GHz

I will also state my 2GHz workstation is not speed my GPU seem the be supported however it does not bencjmark above the 2K/sec that Adobe recommends.

Many operations in Photoshop can not or are not thread so with a few fast cores  Photoshop will  perform better then machines with many slow cores and multiple slow  processors.   Computer clock seep is very important.

So reinstall v22. You can have multiple versions installed--you just have to be careful which versions opens when you double-click on a file. I would suggest you change your CC app prefs so they don't 1) automatically install updates and 2) automatically remove old versions.
