Question

latest update 23.2.1 produced a lot of bugs on windows 10

After the lastest  two updates (latest is 23.2.1) I am now experiencing on windows 10 the same problems you announced have been fixed on mac. (seriously??? yesterday it was working perfectly!)

Photoshop freezes when using opacity controls from every tab (even  using layer styles), also it freezes when using free transform, it freezes when using levels or hue-saturation controls and it's super slow and buggy.

It is very difficult to work with this, as I have to restart every 10 minutes and I am pretty upset because this is increasingly slowing down my work, and I'll be facing problems with deadlines thanks to this poor update.

I am wondering if you doing checks to see if your updates work correctly on each operating system before launching them?

So far I am increasingly unsatisfied about photoshop CC since I subscribed. It is getting full of bugs, selections are n ot precise, what is happening to adobe?

How am I supposed to revert to the previous version now?

I reported this earlier.  The object select tool will work well for awhile, but when the margins aren't clear, instead of a message, Photoshop closes.  No message.  This tool is very helpful -- when it works and PS doesn't crash.

(I had tried to install the component to report Bugs, but it never took effect.)

Hi Jeffrey -   Okay, now you're prompting me to look at what's happening with my Intel card again... I thought I'd disabled it b/c several of my 3rd party Ps plugins are unhappy with (ie, don't work with) two operational GPUs - maybe some plugins needed the Intel so I re-activated it. Now I have to verify it's still disabled.

Were there changes in the Adobe Ps 2022 code wrt to the Direct X 12 & Neural Filters (I'm not a techie so not sure what that does) b/wn the initial Ps 2022 annual update & the next, sequential (not, current) Ps update? Because my Neural Filters worked perfectly (they worked as intended to work...) with the annual update (using my AMD processor) and then, selectively, crapped out (so to speak) with the same processor when I migrated from the initial Ps 2022 release install to its immediately following 2nd release...  If yes, then it would be wonderful if the devs could refine the Adobe extension code that's supposed to suppress use of  our GPUs when operating the Neural Filters (only) so it works! The current extension option didn't work on my system.

It just puzzles me so that from one day & one vers. to the next so many things in Ps neural filters stopped working. To me, that implies the code changed in a way that is causing issues for a goodly number of users (based on that other neural filters issues thread & issues noted in this thread too). A large cust. base can't all have bad processors. And, if so, it really seems the code should support the subscriber base and not get so far ahead of an installed base of tech components.

New processors have become (A) unavailable (supply chain issues I know I don't need to tell you about)  &  (B) unaffordable to a mass user base b/c of (A) who already find the Adobe subscrip model pricey (vs. those ppl who work for big companies & can expense computers/computer components or ppl in smaller biz's who can write off biz expenses).

Not that ppl like me can afford it, but what are Adobe's recommended GPU cards & how do we know code won't be written by Adobe that will obsolete them w/in a year. A concern for the same reasons just noted above.

I suspect the root of your problems are your graphics cards. The Intel 530 is definitely not supported and the AMD Radeon (TM) R9 M360 is on the cusp being from 2015. "Even though it supports DirectX 12, the feature level is only 11_1, which can be problematic with newer DirectX 12 <programs>"

@Mary Jane Watson Aer you seeing freezes or crashes? If crashes, I'm not seeing any submitted crash reports from you in our system. If you haven't done so already, please submit all Crash Reports along with your email address: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/submit-crash-reports.html That will help us diagnose the crash.

@Fotomaker01RA I suspect your issues are caused by an older, unsupported graphics card. It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

I'm also having freeze/crashes under 23.2.1, and the previous 23.x.x versions.
Happily, I also have 22 installed, and the crashes are less frequent.
I'm a user since PS 1.0. Never had these sorts of issues until the CC series. I fondly remember CS2 and CS3. Literally NEVER crashed over years of use.
Oh, well. I still get by. I assume eventually Adobe will squash a few more bugs.

Windows seems to consistently develop issues with updates. I'm going to assume I'd have the same issues as you. So thx for reporting them. In the past 1-2 updates to Ps (I'm on the previous rel. than you are at now) my Neural Filters (Landscape Mixer & Depth Blur) were broken by the Adobe updates. They worked fine when I 1st updated to Ps 2022 (Win 10). Now, Landscape Mixer will no longer apply Adobe-provided Presets and Depth Blur overlays large chunks of opaque black over images that look like random layer masks - this bhvr was detailed extensively by a number of users on a diff. post in this forum). My point being... I experienced the issues with the completely blanked out docked extensions on Win 10 end of last yr that a lot of others did too. So I believe you and won't update to this release you're citing until I know it's safe. I also saw other Win 10 users had issues applying Curves in this release too (in yet another post elsewhere).

I've also installed the latest update to Photoshop 23.2.1 under Windows 10 (21H2) and can't see any of the issues that you wrote here.

Have you tried to reset the PhotoShop preferences?https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#reset_preferences

Before your rewset the preferences I recommend to backup the actual settings.

Preferences in Photoshop (adobe.com)

To go back to a previous version, please see here:

Hi @Erix83 ,

I am sorry for the frustrations you're feeling.  The fix we provided should apply to both mac and windows.  And we did test both operating systems.  So I am suprised you are experiencing this issue.  When you say restart every 10 minutes, is that restarting the Photoshop app or the machine?  If it was restarting the app, would you be okay to restart your machine?  There could be an underlying process from another app that Photoshop is encountering to cause our app to freeze.  Please let me know how it goes either way.  If you prefer to contact me directly, my email is [email removed by moderator as per forum guidelines]

Cheers,

Andrew
