layer 0 from crop

Help please. I am not sufre what I have done but now every time OI crop an image it results in a layer 0 being produced instead of it remaining Background.

I can't find how to change it back. Any help gratefully appreciated.

You likely unchecked "Delete Cropped Pixels" in the Crop Tool Option Bar at the top.

Checkmark that box and you will get a single Background Layer with the padlock icon.
