Layer mask glitches

Photoshop is fully updated! I have created an action that I apply on photos after making a detailed selection. I do the same routine on each photo. Sometimes it works perfectly fine, no issues. Sometimes, I will apply the action and it works, but then when I delete one of the layer masks to redraw a new selection and recreate the layer mask, as soon as I delete it the image changes. It will mess with the very top layer mask (not the layer mask I mentioned) and act as though it is no longer there. If I toggle the visibility off and then back on, the image on the screen will disappear and leave only blocks of the image left on the screen. Additionally, the top layer mask will have blocks on it..if I click back through the history and then forward again, I can watch as the layer mask glitches with different lines and shapes. The image never comes back. Because the bottom layer mask is a desaturated layer, what is left of the image on screen is black and white. I have found that I can save the photo as a photoshop file and reopen it with no problems. Well, the only problem being that it is causing me a ton of extra time that I do not have. Please fix this issue, I have hundreds and hundreds of photos to edit and this is really holding me up 😞

This issue seems to have been solved by going to preferences>technology previews and selecting deactivate native canvas! If I continue to have the issue I will try your troubleshooting solutions! Thank you!

As I'm starting to use PS more again, the bugs are adding up as well...

Today, I've seen this thing happen for the first time in v24.4.1.

The only thing I'm sure of is it happened when switching to another document tab. I went to the previous tab, then back again to my original tab and *poof*... — the mask looked like it had exploded in to a pattern of small black bars.

Not bad enough to go Native Canvas or ask for help, but just mentioning it FYI as a possible hint.

Hi @kimberly2242 ,
I have seen this kind of behavior when masks are generated that extend beyond the canvas edge, or the canvas size of the image has changed and there are many masks that aren't cropped. You could try cropping the image with delete cropped pixels selected and see if there is a change in the mask behavior.
In my experience it's a very elusive bug, almost exclusively on Windows.
As @CShubert said, you should share your action so we can take a look and see what's up.
Thanks!

Hi @kimberly2242 is it possible to share your action with the team to look into?

Let's make sure we're in a default state and there are no stale settings somewhere:

Restore your preferences using this manual method:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually

Does it work correctly?

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.
