Hello,

I'm trying to create a layer mask that will allow a base layer to be visible underneath a top layer. Here you can see that there are two images, no current layer mask.

But when I add the layer mask, it doesn't erase the top image at all.

I'm not sure if I need to adjust a setting or what; my brush is set to normal, it's set to black on white. I've been working at this for hours and am losing my mind.

When I check channels and enable it, this is what I get:

I'm very new to photoshop and would love to be able to get this to work in any capacity.

Welcome to the Photoshop family! I hope that you will enjoy Adobe Photoshop!

If you want to remove the background of the lady (the kind of pink background), you need to apply the layer mask to that layer. You can do this by selecting the layer (see the attached photo) and apply the layer mask. With the white and black color brush you can remove/add parts of the photo.

I hope this will work for you!
