Layer Panel Does Not Show After Recent Update In Photoshop

I noticed after an update earlier this year, the layers panel does not automatically show when I open an image to edit for the first time. I have to click on the layers "button" on the lower right hand side of the workspace to make it show the layer panel. Once I save that image, any time I open it again, the layers panel is there. If I open a new image to edit, the layers panel is gone again. I have to go back and click the layers "button" again to bring back the layers panel.

Not a huge issue, but it is a nuisance issue. Included are images to show what I am talking about.

Sorry I was backwards, the first image I uploaded is how things used to be. "The Before Update". The second image is how it is displaying every time I open up a new image to edit.

@DaleB833 try manually resetting your Photoshop preferences

Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset

I am dealing with the exact same thing, and I teach the program.  I keep resetting the essentials however the essentials have very much changed.  I also click window > layers > and nothing.  It is like the layers panel has dissapeared!

Have you tried resetting your workspace? Click on the top right button in the options bar. Select your worspace then choose 'reset xxxxx'

I did it manually as suggested from a reply above before seeing your reply. Resetting things fixed the issue. thank you for your reply and suggestion. If it happens again (hopefully not) I will try your suggestion. I have an option for "reset essenstials". I assume that is the option to choose.

That's right. If you are using the Essentials workspace, just reset Essentials.

@DaleB833 you can resize the panels by clicking here

And you can also minimize any panel by double-clicking on the panel's name

Hello, thank you. Yes, I am having to do that, and clicking on the layers "button" to show the layers every time I open a new photo to edit. It will look like the second photo that I uploaded (the "after" photo). If I re-open a photo that I have already edited and made the workspace adustments, Photoshop remembers the panel sizing and layer panel adjustments that I made previously. It seems Photoshop doesn't remember my workspace preferences anymore when I open up new images to edit. That is my primary complaint. Photoshop didn't do that before. The workspace used to automatically open up as shown in the second image I uploaded.

You omitted specifying the Photoshop version for someone else to verify on their end.
