Layer Style Presets Freeze, causing Photoshop to crash

Community Beginner ,

Hello.  I'm having issues with layer style presets causing photoshop to crash.  After loading the presets, I attempt to scroll down.  About halfway down the list, the window freezes and I can't view the rest of the presets.  But, i can scroll back up and still view earlier presets.  If I attempt to keep scrolling up and down, photoshop will eventually crash.  Any ideas of what could be causing this?  The presets worked fine for a long time, before a recent update.  Thanks in advance.

Hi!

A couple of questions for you! What verstion of Photoshop are you using? Did this just start happening, or did you upgrade anything and then it started happening?  And have you tried resetting your preferences?

To reset your preferences, here is a help doc that will walk you through the process--I would suggest doing it manually and follow the steps to back up any of your brushes, styles, etc. so you don't lose anything you've created.

Let us know the answers to the questions above, and if resetting the preferences fixes the issue or if you still need assistance.

Michelle

I have the most recent version.  Unfortunately I've already tried resetting preferences and that did not help.

Also, they worked for over a year without any issue, until one of the more recent updates.  Thanks for the help.

The number of presets you have may be an issue if you possess a vast array but a limited amount of RAM. Presets such as layer styles, brushes, gradients, and actions need to be loaded into RAM when Photoshop is launched. An excessive number of presets can consume your memory.

That is what I am thinking. But all of them worked for a year or more, until the more recent updates.  I have 16gb ram. That should be more than enough, correct?
