Light glow effects

Hi people. I'm putting out this question as I have been wanting to know for some time now as to how it's done & that is light glow effects. For example the glow light effect from the sun or a candle in a dark room giving off a glow effect that progressively fades the further out it goes. If anyone could give me some information as to how this is achieved I would be very grateful.

    HI

    You could make a shape in the shape of your candle flame, add a layer style with outer glow and turn the fill of the shape layer to 0% so that only the glow is visible.

    I often though just paint a glow with a soft brush (0% hardness) on an empty layer and set the layer blending mode to screen. That's how I added the glow to the light bulbs and lamplights in this 3D rendered scene. (Click to view larger).
