Question

Lighting effect does not provide alpha channel as an option for texture

I am attempting to apply a texture in the Lighting Effects filter using an alpha channel.
Alpha 1 is in place and I'm working in 8b/c and RGB.
When I bring up the properties in the effects filter I can only select red, green or blue in the Texture menu - Alpha 1 is nowhere to be seen.
Any help much appreciated.

Hello, I was in the process of doing the same thing on PS 2024. Did you ever find a way to work around it? I really want to use the lighting effects because I'm not sure what else could be an equivalent tool or method.

There is no workaround for Photoshop 2024 because Adobe has removed most of the 3D stuff including Lighting Effects from Photoshop 2024.

If you want a Photoshop with fully working 3D, install Photoshop 22.2 which is available from the Adobe Creative Cloud Application.

In the Adobe Creative Cloud application click on Apps then where Photoshop is listed click the four liitle dots, then

Other versions.

Adobe is in the process of removing the 3D engine from photoshop so nothing that uses the 3D engine

should be trusted to work right, which includes Lighting Effects.

The only way to ensure that 3D reliant functions like Lighting Effects work right is to install

photoshop 2023 (ps ver 22.2) as explained in the following Adobe KB
