Lighting Effects filter grayed out

I'm using Photoshop CC version 22.4.2 on Windows 10. Since upgrading to that version I've not been able to use the Lighting Effects filter because it is grayed out. In addition, Photoshop does not recognize my graphics card in this version.

 

However, when using Photoshop CC version 21.1.2 I'm able to use the Lighting Effects filter. Also Photoshop recognizer my graphics card.

 

Are there any suggestions for a solution to this so that I can use the Lighting Effects filter in the newer version of Photoshop?

Photoshop GPU system requirements have changed with the most recent versions of Photoshop

You could try and force Photoshop to use the GPU

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/enable-optional-extensions-photoshop-cc.html

You need to create a PSUserConfig.txt and save it to the below location with the following entry

 

# Force GPU On

GPUForce 1

 

C:\Users\your name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2021\Adobe Photoshop 2021 Settings

This worked! Thank you for the suggestion!

However, going forward, this may not always work.

Would it be possible to replace the graphics card in my old computer with a newer card so that I wouldn't have to worry about this incompatibility with future versions of Photoshop?

Depends on your motherboard and power supply really, I have an old PC with a Intel i7 3770K CPU released in 2012, ASUS LGA1155 motherboard and I was able to install a RTX2060 Super, also had to replace the power supply along with a few other upgrades, SSD's, RAM etc.
