Hi I am having a lot of issues with the Lighting Effect, and am wondering if there is a work around solution for it? It was working ok before the update, the preview functions was working the only problem was it would crash the whole application every once in a while, and now after the update it stopped working entirely. I am getting white layer image, no preview, or broken image. Any help appreciated.

@bahag60846441  and others,

Lighting effects are part of the 3D engine, and is being removed from Photoshop.

Deactivate Native Canvas was a short-term workaround. If it does not work for you and you want to use Lighting Effects or 3D, you need to install Photoshop 22.2. You can run this concurrently with the current version.

Hi,

We're sorry about the trouble with Photoshop while using the Lighting Effect. Would you mind sharing the version of Photoshop you're using along with your computers macOS version?

If you're using the latest version of Photoshop, you can try enabling the option to Deactivate Native Canvas by going to Preferences, then Technology Previews. Once done, quit & relaunch Photoshop to check if that helps.

Let us know if it helps!

Regards,

Nikunj

Hi,

Same problem here – even after deactivating Native Canvas. I'm running PS 23.1 on MacOS 12.1 on Apple Silicon M1.

After opening the render tool, I can't edit the lights (e.g. move etc). There is no way to interact with the canvas (don't see the outlines of the lights either). It all just goes white on the layer (smart object or not doesn't matter) the effect is being applied to.

Cheers,

Marco

I'm having the same issue. I have tried deactivating the native canvas but it still won't let me interact with any lighting effect tools. I'm running Photoshop 23.1.1 MacOs 12.0 Apple M1 Max

I'm having the same issue on an M1 16" MBP MacOS 12.1, PS 23.1.1. The plugin is completely unusable.

It is OCT 2022, more than a year later. I am still having the same issue (MBP 14 M1, now with the newest version 2023 of Photoshop).
Can we please receive any statement from ADOBE on this topic?
