Linking Between Layers and masks

Community Beginner ,
Sep 20, 2019 Sep 20, 2019

Hello and good day Photosop Community! 🙂

I want to ask if any one has an idea, if is it possible to link a Layer with a mask from Another Layer ?

Thank you very much!

Mohamed

Please elaborate.

One can use multiple linked Smart Object instances and use one (or more) or them as the basis of a Clipping Mask or as Knockout Layers for example.

But it often is probably not extremely convenient and the specifics depend on what exactly you want/need to achieve.

In that case putting both Layers into one Group and dragging the Layer Mask onto the Group might suffice.

its a smart Solution, but the thing is when I apply mask on a group, the Layer Style will be Masked too, and I don't want such a thing 😄 I need to keep the Lyerstyle, and specially on the edges. But thanks 🙂

The previous screenshot did not show Layer Styles, so it was apparently not possible to assess what you are actually trying to do.

A Smart Object Clipping Mask in a Group would be a possible approach.
