Liquify not working

I'm trying to use the liquify filter on a mask and I keep getting this warning saying "Liquify is capable of utilizing the Graphics Processor on RGB files to increase performance. The color mode you have chosen will not utilize the Graphics Processor". I know this means I need everything in 8-bits RGB color mode and it all is but it still won't work! What can I do? All I wanted to do was exactly what I say in this tutorial: How to Add Patterns to Clothing in Photoshop - YouTube

You can't use the Liquify Command on a Mask, because the Mask is in Grayscale mode. (You know this because the Color Panel has only a Grayscale slider) You need to select the Image Thumbnail which is RGB/8 and where the sliders are RGB or HSB.

Looking at the video, that's what the instructor has selected.
