Hi. Becoming more familiar with Photoshop but still having issues. I need to cut and paste images betweeen two photos to create something new and I can't for the life of me figure out how to load two images into Photoshop so i can cut parts of one to paste into the other. Tried the net for answers but have had no success and only have become more confused. Can someone please help in plain language so this dummy can understand? Thanks.

I'm trying a different approach to help explain it using shortcuts only:

If you already know how to make your selection, make it as you normally would, otherwise for now just hit Ctrl+A to select the whole image.

Now hit the following key combinations:

  • Ctrl+C (copy)
  • Ctrl+W (close file)
you will get an alert asking you to save. You can save or not, that's your choice
after picking an option image 1 will go away leaving the image you want to paste into open
  • Ctrl+V (paste)

Hi John!

We are glad to help! First, you can open both photos into Photoshop, just select both and hit Open. If your workspace is not set up for tabs, you can go to the Window menu and cloose Arrange>Consolidate All to Tabs. This will put both images in the same window and you can click on the tab at the top to go back and forth between the two. See the image below:

Your second option (Highlighted at the top of the image above) is to then Tile your images. For instance, if your images are vertical you can select the tile both vertical and you will see them side by side.

If you don't want to see both at the same tiem, then you can click on the tabs at the top to go back and forth to copy and paste from one image to the other.

A Quick tip: If you make a selection (can be a layer or just a portion of a layer), click on the area you want to copy and hold the mouse button down while dragging that part of the image up to the Tab at the top of the image you want to copy to. When you are over the tab, then the image will change to the one you are copying to, and you then need to drag the image down on the the document and it will effectively copy that selection to the new window.

Let us know if that helps, or if you have any additional questions!

"I need to cut and paste images betweeen two photos to create something new and I can't for the life of me figure out how to load two images into Photoshop so i can cut parts of one to paste into the other"

if you just images open to cut or copy paste parts of them then simply open images, switch to their tabs, select portion then copy, switch back to work in progress and paste.

If you need images in the same document then use File > Place Embedded.

If you want all images in the same document you can also use File > Scripts > Load Files into Stack.

Some screenshots of what are you trying to do or what is problem will be useful if above explanations does not help.

You can Paste an inager into a document as a new Image layers and yoc cans transform/scale the inacet tos bar ans approatre size tofor the other imaagse scale in the Document.  You  can position the  image layer between other images layers and  maske the Image so only  the image area between the other images is visible or you can cut imags arede the overlap other images layers.

So

Paste
