Hi hardingt,

Can you give a bit more detail on which colors are changing and how? The item I noticed was the "Another Way" text seemed to change color a bit when added to the rose picture, but it looks like it's a simultaneous contrast effect and not the colors actually changing.

Agreed, it is an appearance issue, the RGB numbers are the same, both images are tagged with sRGB.

What I would recommend is adding a layer mask based on the transparency of the logo, then using the filter > other > minimum to shrink down the mask edges by 1px or so (I also looked at remove white matte and defringe but they didn't seem to help too much).

Thank you Chris it is primarily the (perceived change) from black to greyer particularly of the primary text when overlayed or added into the rose image.

You are welcome! I believe your best bet in this case is that you will have to edit your logo to make the colors "feel" correct in your overlay. It looks like the right people are in this thread to help you do that! Let us know if you have any questions on doing so!

Thank you Chris486 - I am actually struggling with how to edit logo so it presents as near Black on top od the Rose image given it is black in its native form. Can you suggest best approach. Most grateful. Thank you.

I think an easy way to make non-destructive changes (though there are many others too) would be to use the Hue adjustment sliders with mask. They will let you adjust the lightness and colors of the logo for your overlay on the rose.

I attached a work file below so you can play with the idea and see if it works for you.

Here is some help on adjustments and mask if you need it:

Adjustment and fill layers in Photoshop (adobe.com)

Use masks to hide layers in Photoshop (adobe.com)

The RGB values appear not to change if that means anything.

I don't want to disrespect Stephen who always has the right answers (sorry, I don't know Chris), but color is not my thing so I usually tag Dag @D Fosse  wity these sort of threads.

Thanks Trevor, but no need this time. Chris and Stephen both have the right answer: the color isn't actually changing, it just looks like it's changing on the dark background. That's how easily the eye plays tricks on the brain... 😉

(normally the reason for this is one untagged image. But it wasn't even that.)

In the often used illustration below, tiles A and B are the same numerical colour value, however they are perceived very differently by the human observer. This fact is not something new...

So if we can agree that the colour values in the logo are the same, but the image appears different to a human observer, what should be done?

Nothing? Leave things alone?

Or adjust so that the perceived appearance on a darker background is similar to a lighter background?
