Losing styles upon opening??

I have been experiencing this problem for a while now and really need to find out why it is happening. From what I've been told when you load things like styles and brushes and then shut down properly they should be there when you reopen. I would say 4 out of 5 times that is true for me. But, every so often I shut everything down correctly and the next time I reopen PS CC I find that my swatches, actions, and often my brushes are still there, but all the styles I had disappear and it is back to the default ones. I don't load a huge amount at a time either. Sometimes it is both my brushes and swatches that get put back to default settings. I would really like to know what is causing this. I have saved my styles into 4 simple groups to quickly reinstall when this happens, but it seems like it is happening more and more frequently.

Did you reset your prefs, that will take you back to the defaults. If you did not save you custom styles, they are lost. SO always save your styles if you have done work to them that you want to ensure you do not lose.

That is good to know, but no - I wasn't resetting anything. That is why this is confusing to me. I am simply working in the program with my files and MOST of the time it is just fine. Then, every so often, even though my actions are the same as previous work sessions it randomly chooses to lose styles and sometimes my brushes the next time I reopen the program. I do have them saved and just have to keep reinstalling when this happens. Thank you so much for your response - I will keep that in mind about the preferences! =)

Until you figure this out would back up your styles once you have them configured.

If your preferences were locked and could not be saved, this also can happens when you restart the app, so check and repair your permissions. So keep an eye out if this happens when you restart the app, or do a simple test to confimr.

To repair permissions on mac use disk Utility to do that. For a really good repair start in recovery mode (Command R and run disk utility). Wiindows is much more complicated to answer but right clicking on the folders would get you started.

Try opening a file that you were working when you created the style. I don't recall if photoshop saves styles with the document or as a global setting. But worth checking out.

I think it is a global setting. Usually they remain no matter what photoshop file I open to work with, but every so often I go to use one of my "go to" styles and realize that once again the styles have reset back to default. Thanks for your time and response. =)
