Lost all my work on a smart object

Contributor ,

I've been working all day on a smart object, always saving it as I go along.

But I accidently closed the master file without saving it, then continued to work on the open smart object. But once I quit and reopened photoshop. All my work has gone..

Is there anyway to recover it?

If you still have the PSB file open, go to File > Save As and save it to your hard drive. Open the master file, select the smart object layer, right-click and from the contextual menu, select Replace Contents (or go to Layer > Smart Object > Replace Contents...) and navigate to where you saved the PSB file. Photoshop will replace the smart object with the PSB that you saved.

Oh, I just noticed that you said you quit Photoshop. In that case, if you saved the PSB file after working on it, it should be in your Temp folder even after quitting Photoshop. On Windows, that would be:

  • C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Temp
