Lost Files!!! Can't find files after changing the number of recent files (File Handelling)

So i was fooling around with the number of recent files visible at one time, because i found that the only way to delete photoshop files is through clearing the entire recent files list. I went to Preferences -> General -> File Handelling, and changed the Recent Files List Contains number to 1. Then i deleted the one recent file viewable..... but to my horror, when i went back to increase the Recent Files number the same way, all my other files remained missing.

I haven't yet been able to find anyone else on the internet talking about this, but it feels like such a weird loophole to accidentally delete your files through, that i feel like ive discovered it haha

Any help at all would be hugely appreciated... i had some unfinished paintings going on that i was really proud of and im pretty heartbroken :'  -   (

(also just for posterity, im using a Mac with the 2019 version pf Photoshop, and i haven't been able to find a way to try the Directory Search trick i've seen people mention.)

Hi

Try a spotlight search in Finder for the extension you used, such as .psd, then add additonal filters if necessary by clicking the + sign.

You can't delete files by changing the recent files number. You have to actually delete them by sending them to the trash. You just lost them. You need to search your hard drive. Make sure you didn't save them to the cloud, too.
