Question
Luminosity & Darken mode
This post concerns a technique for 'flash-ambient' (or flambient) photography using a 'window pull' method to obtain good exterior views from a window:
I have three exposures of the same subject, these three exposures are opened in PS as layers:
The base layer is an exposure using flash
The mid layer is an ambient exposure with the layer set to 'luminosity' mode and transparency set to 50%
The top layer is set to 'darken' mode with a 'hide-all' mask with the window view painted in using a 'normal' brush at 100% opacity.
When I change the transparency of the mid layer (the layer set to luminosity mode) to say 90%, the strength of the darken mode layer increases. If I set the mid layer to say 30% transparency, the strength of the darken mode decrease (see examples).
Could someone please explain why this is happening? I want the darken mode to be at 100% strength, no matter what transparency value I set the 'luminosity' layer to.
