Question

Mac mini or Lenovo P3 for Photoshop?

My school has the opportunity to buy new computers for my classroom where I mostly teach Photoshop and some Lightroom. The only two options we have are between Mac mini and the Lenovo P3, here are the specs for each. Any suggestions?  I am a Mac user, but if the PC is a much better option, I would consider the switch.

MAC MINI - 16/512GB

Mac mini: Apple M2 chip with 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, 16GB memory, 512GB SSD storage

THINKSTATION® P3 TINY

Windows Pro 64/Intel Core* 7-137001 processor• 32GB /1TB solid state drive.

As for the computers themselves, there are multiple considerations.

    - The Macs will likely be faster.

    - Microsoft typically involves licensing headaches while macOS is free with the computer so your tech people don't have to deal with any of the hassles..

    - If you get the PCs, you MUST MUST MUST MUST get ones with discrete graphics cards (which will be more money.) The Macs are fine as-is for graphics, as the systems are designed differently. Even then, the best graphics card offered by Lenovo for that model will be underpowered.

    - It looks like the Lenovo models will be more expensive upfront.

My recommendation will be to stick with the Macs, especially if your tech people already have a tool for lab management (what we call an MDM, these are pretty standard for both platforms.)

    Thank you!
I am concerned about the 16G being enough. Thoughts?

16GB might be enough if they’re small student projects and they’re not keeping a lot of other applications open. If students are likely to create documents with large pixel dimensions and many layers, consider 32GB.

32GB is a safer bet if these school machines need to be in service for a number of years and still meet future system requirements at the Recommended level.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
