MacOS opening image files in PS Beta as default (despite Change All to PS2024 in File info)

I want to work in PS 2024. MacOS is opening image files in PS Beta as default, despite me using Change All in File info.

In the File Info (Command I) dialog, after 'Change All to Photoshop 2024, after opening 1 file, it reverts back to Beta. In MacOS, whenever I open a PDB, PSD, TIFF or JPEG etc, Beta will start even with 25.1 already running.

It's only when using Finder. In Bridge I can set which Photoshop opens the files and it works fine.

Anyone else experiencing this? Is there a way to set it to PS 2024 instead of PS Beta?

Or, should I just be using Beta 🙂

I'm on Mac OS Sonoma (but it did this in Ventura too).

@fastfingers did you changed the Finder setting for each file type?

Do you have 2024 open when you double-click a file?

I did change the setting for each type at the beginning when I thought I would stay set. Now I'm just testing it on one type for speed.

Most of the day I have it open, sometimes when I'm just starting I don't, it does not matter.

I have the same issue here. In "get info dialogue box", I click "Open with: Adobe Photoshop 2024 app" and when I click "Change All.." button, the "Open with: box reverts back to "Adobe Photoshop Beta". This is so frustrating.

Adding to my post - I have Mac OS 14.3 and the files are in both local and network server.

I might have discovered a solution. I always worked from the server and I tried going through (psd, png, tig, jpg) the "get info", select Photoshop 2024 and clicked 'change all' and it worked. I then went to the server and opened a psd, png, tif, jpg and all opened with Photoshop 2024.

»Same problem« as who? edited

I cannot reproduce the problem on MacOS 14.2.1.

Are you working locally?

Same here. I can change the settings in finder (which is annoying, as it is at least 4–6 fileformats every time the beta updates, which is rather more often than the regular 2024 version). A beta on principle should not be the «default» App. (Plus, it would be really really really nice if the Beta would adapt to my default keyboard shortcuts and workspaces etc.)  😉

This issue was driving my crazy.  I didn't want to "Open with" for each file.  I found these instructions for a Mac which WORKED!

  1. On your Mac, click the Finder icon in the Dock to open a Finder window.
  2. Click on any PSD file, then choose File > Get Info. ...
  3. In the Info window, click the arrow next to “Open with.”
  4. Click the pop-up menu, choose an app, then click Change All

Every file should now open with Photoshop 2024 or whatever app you selected.

Did this multiple times, still opens in stupid beta. Very annoying Adobe.

Why do you change crap that was working fine. If its not broken please leave it alone.

So why not simply uninstall the Beta version?

@donk24201133 misplaced blame - this is controlled by the Mac OS not Adobe.

Is there a solution in macOS 13+ to open relevant documents with whichever version of Photoshop is currently running? As someone that uses multiple installs of Photoshop, this is the behavior I appreciated in older versions of macOS. My current settings appear to only open documents with the specified version of Photoshop (using the instructions above) even if another version is running.
