Can someone tell me how to make this error go away in Photoshop?

"Could not complete your request because of a program error"

I can get passed it one file at a time by opening in paint or another program and resaviing, but that will take forever with all the files I have.

I have reset preferecnes, restarted but that has not worked.

Photoshop CC v 20.0.8  or  21.0.3

Windows 10Pro.

Correct answer NB, colourmanagement

It looks like a format or encoding issue from the originating software.

I hope its not too many images

even if it takes time, it looks like that’s your answer

Maybe it can be batch processed - e.g. open all images in a specific folder, process and save to another. Photoshop can do that kind of thing, but maybe not Paint.

On a Mac so many things like this can be scripted, maybe there's something similar on Windows?

Seems these images are legacy ones? Have you never opened any in Photoshop before? If an earlier version of Photoshop was opening them (and you still have that version) then maybe that’s your answer. Batch processing.

I hope this helps

Bob,

Just some friendly advice.  Don't use e-mail to reply to public forum posts.  Or if you do, remove your e-mail signature first.

Most Application open that jpeg without a problem the only programs I tried that have a problem are Photoshop and Internet Explored. I tried 6 versions of Photoshop. No version could open the file. Three versions stated the problem is there is an invalid jpeg marker.

Hello, where does these files come from?

What file format are they?

Do you get the error when trying to open the file?

They came from a Canon Power Shot A640.

The are .JPG.

Here is the error message.

Sounds like a memory problem.

Edit > Preferences > Performance.  How much RAM are you allocating to Photoshop?

Edit > Preferences > Scratch Disks.  How big is your scratch disk?

RAM = 11902 mb 80%

Scratch disk = 28.82gb

The files you are having problems with what program wrote the file. How were these created. If sounds like Photoshop has a problem with their file format. But Paint does not and when over written by paint.  Photoshop no longer has a problem with the updated file. Photoshop does not seen to be able to decode the image files.

They were made in the Camera.  An old Canon Powershot A640 that I no longer use.
