Making Brushes

I made brush with several 'hair' dots like examples shown on Youtube. When I use the new brush the lines are not distinct, they are blurred and do not look like single hairs. I tried to troubleshoot an answer and found none.  What have I done incorrectly?

Assuming you're using Photoshop to create custom brushes, please take us through the steps you used. Or give us a link to the tutorial.

Also which software version are you using?

    And which operating system?

    To answer your questions

    Software PS 22.5.1
    Operating System: M1, 2020
    macOS Big Sur 11.2.3

    Steps taken:
    Blank Layer
Selected: soft round brush, size 4
Made random black dots on the blank screen
Selected marquee tool around the dots
Then went to Edit-define brush preset, saved then deleted marquee
Then went to brush settings and selected
       Smoothing
        Transfer control: pen pressure
                      Opacity: pen pressure
         Shape dynamics: pen pressure

    Then I saved the Brush
When I use it I get very blurred lines with shadows.
