making "Details" the default view

Explorer ,
Dec 19, 2016 Dec 19, 2016

I am recently switched over to CS6 ( I know, I know - come join us on the cloud ), and also to Widows 10. This after - for years - running CS5 on XP.

So getting used to both at once.

It seems that even though I corrected my default preference for viewing folders ( Details ), within File Explorer ( where in fact all folders open in that view ),

Photoshop seems unwilling to accept this change - more or less insisting that each time I open a folder, I am greeted with the huge clunky thumbnails view.

If I change manually, and then go one folder up or down the change - you guessed it - more clunky thumbnails.

So my question is kind of twofold - is this something I can configure within Photoshop, is there some reason that the program is not taking its marching orders from Windows ?  I would have thought that making the change within Windows preferences would carry over into all the programs - but it does not seem to.

As I say, I never had this issue previously using SC5 AND XP, but making both changes at once, I am unable to isolate where the infatuation with Large Icons is coming from.

Please let me know if there is some way to configure that I am greeted with the Details view, and if I want to see the thumbnails I will make the change - not the other way around.

Thanks for reading this,

Sterne

Have you tried setting the view within the Photoshop File Open window ?

Yes, but it's not taking. Or perhaps it is for that particular folder, but as soon as I move up or down the folder tree to the next folder - it will open as thumbnails.

Surely I shouldn't need to tell it my preference for each and every folder ( thousands ),  on my computer.  ( ? )

I am looking for a way to have it always use Details - without me having to tell it each and every time.

Have you applied all the photoshop cs6 updates like 13.0.1.3 using Help>Updates from within photoshop?

Anyway , from what i remember about XP, this is not an easy thing to change, in fact i believe one needs a third party solution.

I don't know why your photoshop cs5 seemed to remember, but i tried all kinds of different

programs on my win xp 32 bit install and all of them that use the windows common open dialogs

defaulted for example to Thumbnail View in any of the My Pictures folders and List View in folders like My Documents.

Also, since photoshop cs6 doesn't show a preview of files when clicked on like cs5 did, the thumbnail view might be useful.

     Kelly,

Thanks. Up to date on updates so no easy fix there.

Don't know, like I said - behaves correctly in Windows Explorer, always displaying in Details ( unless I select another view )  but once into programs - such as Photoshop, or Irfanview ( the picture viewer I use ), gets all hellbent on making everything a thumbnail.

It's very annoying. And since this behavior is occurring in multiple programs, likely some Windows sort of bug or annoyance.

Was just hoping someone in this community might have run up against / solved, this same sort of issue.

Thanks again,

Sterne
