Marching ants stay on the image

Since updating to 2017 when I make a selection, say to remove a sky, the marching ants remain static as part of the image.  Is this a bug or am I doing something differently??

    Please uncheck it and relaunch photoshop then try it out once, and let us know about the outcome.

    Hi Chrisl,

    Could you please go to Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Advanced Settings and see if Open GL is checked or not?

    Thank you Sahil that appears to have been the problem.  It would be useful if you could explain to me what that check box is.
