Markers not showing in ruler - how do I get them back? PS 23.5 on windows 10

Markers are not showing in the ruler -

I can not find a setting or reason they are not showing.

I googled but no help, PS User Guide not helping.

I uninstalled 23.5 --

RE-installed 23.4.2 --- Marker is back in the ruler

Someone much more proficient in PS than I may have an explanation - I am totally lost!

Have you seen all the display options under the Show section of the View menu?

The Extras option within the View menu is a toggle that turns on and off all this "stuff". It also has the keyboard shortcut of Command/Control + H. Perhaps you had accidentally turned this option off.

Extras was checked -

I could find nothing that talked about the "marker" being abled or dis-abled.

I have tried twice to uninstall and install, same results each time

Frustrated is an understatement -

I will look again later time.

@Michael Bullo – This is the line on the X and Y ruler indicating the current cursor position on the canvas, it "moves with the mouse". I can't recall Adobe's official name for the feature...

I would always suggest resetting preferences before uninstalling/reinstalling.

Good call @Stephen_A_Marsh . "Markers" is a term generally used in programs like After Effects for leaving indicators on a timeline or a clip. I want to be 100% sure that we aren't talking about something like that here.

Markers is the term I find describing the "lines" in PS Rulers.

This screen shot shows the Markers - shot from Windows 10 Pro -- PS 23.4.2

I have attempted to un-install, re-install with no success, hoped that would resolve the issue.

Extras are checked, Ruler shows but no marker.

I will update again and try to take screen shots of the Extra-Options portion.

See Two Screen Shots - One from my desktop PS 23.5.1 and one from my laptop - PS 23.5.0

Markers work on the laptop, not on the desktop - You will also note major differences in the options available.

These are both under the heading View - Show -

I thought I could make sure to "tick" the appropriate entries and things would work. NOT SO.

I hope this helps clear up what I am attempting to resolve. (workspace is not locked so that should have no effect)

additionally - two screen shots - View-Show-Show Extras Options

Both are identical

Not being able to see identical options or "menu" I do not have any idea of what to do to make the "MARKERS" visible in the ruler - both X and Y axis if my terminology is correct.

Please advise if there is something further I can do to help solve this - I am not a well versed user of PS so this is a struggle.

I have just ran through the entire "preferences", ensured the Desktop machine matches the Laptop

Still - NO MARKER in the RULER

Since Preferences are Identical on both machines - where would the gain be to reset and lose all that is there now?

One more noticed difference --- Cursor -- settings are identical on laptop and desktop -

Desktop when using MOVE TOOL does not show the four directional arrow symbol and this is also where the Marker would be displaying. On the Laptop, the four directional arrow symbol shows below and slightly right of the arrowhead cursor and the Marker shows in the Ruler.

I hope this helps to Identify and resolve this issue -

I have exhausted my knowledge and ability to further diagnose.

How do I restore the cursor location in the ruler in PS

When I select Text Tool, the cursor location used to show in rulers, now nothing shows in ruler.

Which Ps version is in question. Everything works as expected on Windows 11 running latest 23.5.1 version of Photoshop. There are problems with Scrubby Zoom after activating and using Type tool, cursor indicator in ruler works just fine.

I believe the reason your not seeing the Ruler Markers is the GPU is disabled. In photoshop go to Edit>Preferences>Performance and see if you can check Use Graphics Processor. If your able to check

Use Graphics Processor, then restart photoshop.

That's also why the View>Show Extras menu is different.

Do you know what graphics card your desktop has or if not you can go to photoshop and under Help>System Info paste the contents here on the forum.

If for some reason your unable to check Use Graphics Processor you can go to Edit>Preferences>Technology Previews, uncheck Enable Native Canvas Rulers, then restart photoshop and the Ruler Markers should show.

It does recommend updating the graphics card driver, so that would be something to try.

Install the Studio Driver if availble for your NVIDIA GeForce GTX 745.

NO update is available for the Graphic Card - I just checked that too.

FYI - Just tried going back to 23.5.0 - same issues -

Seems that everytime I try to do the right thing and update as they come available, errors and problems result.

Something is wrong, someone must be able to figure this out -- drawing at straws is not working.

@ctsnowfighter – Did you try resetting preferences as I previously asked? Preferences are not removed with a reinstall. Corrupt preferences are the cause of many "inexplicable" issues with Photoshop (except for when they aren't).
