Marquee selection from center with Option key doesn't work

When using the marquee tool to make a selection, pressing the option key does not change the selection to start from the center. Instead, the selection continues to originate from the corner of the bounding box, but doubles in size. I've reset the marquee tool, reset all tools, restarted Photoshop, restarted my computer, disconnected and reconnected my tablet, keyboard and mouse. Nothing works. Same problem occurs with Rectangle (U) tool. Photoshop 23.5.1, macOS 11.6.1. Please help!

Turns out there was a device conflict and my tablet and wireless mouse were interfering with each other. I updated to the latest drivers and the problem resolved itself. Thanks!

Did you try using just the mouse with the tablet disconnected?

Unfortunately that didn't work, and as you might be able to tell from my OP uploaded screen recording, the selection is clearly not originating from the cursor, even when Option is held down.

Check to make sure by putting intersecting guides and try again using the guides intersection as the starting point with the option key pressed.
