mask preview

Hi,
I am new to photoshop.
I would like to preview a mask, so I select the level, I hover over the small preview press alt+click, but nothing happens.

What should I do?

Hi Enrico

Did your mask have some content? i.e. areas of black and areas of white.

You can see the levels Adjustment layer which is half filled with black. The black hides the effect of the adjustment layer. The white reveals it.

If I hold down the Alt key and click on the layer mask, it shows the mask contents in the image window.

Hi,
Yes, it has.
I tried many times, I noticed that if I click on the small preview its
outline do not even get white.

I think it's like I'm selecting nothing

Hi, here is a snapshot.
As you can see I selected the layer, then properties, then Masks, at that point the mask icon in the layers panel got framed in white.
I hovered on the icon, I pressed alt and right clicked, but nothing happens
